[ There's a lesson to be taken from this, probably. Something like 'don't join a religious order if you don't care about religion that much' or 'nothing good could ever come from dealing with mages'.
Instead, the only lesson Kagami sees in this is 'make sure you find your friends faster next time' and 'make sure you stick with them when you do'. It had taken him nearly four years to begin and advance his templar training enough to even get close to one of the Circles - and when he finally had found Kise again things had gone all to hell the very same day. In the chaos of the Chantry's destruction and the ensuing riots Kagami had been left with a critical decision: flee with Kise and never look back, or take the time to ensure that Kise would be able to stay free once he was gone.
It was an easy enough decision, at the time. Kagami had 'forced' his way Circle basement (being an obvious templar as well as the only person trying to get into the Circle at the time had made it easier) and shattered Kise's phylactery (along with dozens of others) by way of knocking over the entire shelf and stomping on the remains for good measure. At that point things should have gone a little smoother. All he had to do was get out of Kirkwall and track Kise down again. He'd done it once before, right?
Things are never that simple. Getting away from his 'duties' once he'd shattered the little blood-filled vials had been next to impossible, and despite his often questionable friends Kagami still has plenty of morals. If it wasn't helping the templars control the riots and protect the relief workers, it was helping the mages avoid angry mobs and get to safety, and before Kagami can really gather himself an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year has passed and there's no end in sight. There's always something more, always something else he can't quite abandon in the name of directionless wandering, and the odds of finding Kise again any time soon become smaller and smaller.
It's right around then that he hears news that Kise descended into blood magic, which he dismisses as a simple conflation of the terms 'blood mage' and 'apostate'. But then he hears details, hears rumors about a golden-haired mage in Tevinter making a name for himself, about necromancy and exploding bodies and that makes him nervous. Of course, Kise is Kise no matter what time of day it is and blood magic, or a lack thereof, isn't going to make it more or less likely that he'll kill someone if he feels the inclination - but Kagami's nervous all the same, and he ends up settling into a comfortable sort of denial for the next couple of years. Kise wouldn't rely on blood magic because it may be powerful but it's also risky and it opens him up to being squished under something else's thumb, and Kise hates being anyone's man but his own.
So it comes as a nasty shock when he meets Kise again (after the Conclave and the explosion and the Seekers and the arrest) and finds him doing exactly what the rumors had been talking about; blowing up his enemies, controlling corpses, and various other unpleasantly necromantic acts. Kagami is grateful that their trip up the mountain is too harrowing, and the situation too precious, for him to have the time to yell at Kise about everything.
But the trip up the mountain doesn't take forever (fortunately) and Kise decides to stick close to him (fortunately) and it's only a matter of time before they find themselves in privacy, the other gathered members of the Inquisition too distracted by their own affairs to continue lingering near him like a bunch of fussy mothers. In their isolation, there's a lot of things Kagami could say or do, countless questions he could ask, a lot of important things he could say-
And he opts to do none of that in lieu of grabbing Kise by his robes and shoving him up against the nearest wall. Kagami always looks a little angry but right now he's out-and-out furious - as well as confused and distraught, and every last bit of it is showing in his expression. ]
What the hell was that?!
